Gem Lab Africa

Gem Lab African Story

For decades, gem grading and certification processes in Africa have
been outsourced to the rest of the world – creating time delays,
less-than-eco-friendly gem cycles and fewer opportunities for local
gemmologists to perfect their craft.

Gem Lab Africa believes it is Africa’s time. Time for African labs
and African experts. Time for a local solution that delivers
reporting and certification in line with global standards of expertise
and innovation.

The Gem Lab Africa vision is to be the preferred, trusted partner
to jewellers, merchants and collectors who continue to develop the
diamond and gemstone industry on the continent.

Gem Lab Africa Seal

At first glance, our logo—a striking 16-sided, 89-faceted diamond cut— symbolizes our core business of gemstone certification and represents the precision and expertise with which we carry out our work. However, a closer look reveals a deeper layer of meaning: the geometric design subtly echoes the form of the King Protea – an iconic African flower native to South Africa where our Head Office is based. The protea is often associated with diversity and courage and as such, incorporating it into our logo is a symbol of our commitment to building Africa’s name on the global gemstone laboratory stage.
